Wrap It Up!
With this awesome cart you don’t need a gift wrap room! The elfa Mesh Gift Wrap Cart from The Container Store solves all your gift wrapping dilemmas – a top drawer to hold pens, scissors, tape, gift cards, etc., small drawers for ribbons and bows, two large drawers for gift bags/boxes, and a holder for rolls of wrap on the side. Plus – a top surface for wrapping and it’s on CASTERS, so you can roll it into a closet or corner until you need it. This is one of the few Container Store products that I exclusively recommend to my clients, because it’s perfect and you can’t get in anywhere else.(However, I recommend NOT getting the Ribbon Dispenser – ribbon just unwinds and makes a mess; better to keep that in one of the drawers.) We’ve had one for almost 10 years and it’s perfect – well worth the $199!
Forget the racks and lazy Susans: SpiceStack is the way to go! I recommend the YouCopia® SpiceStack® to all of my clients, and have been using it myself for years! It comes in several sizes so you can find the one that best fits your cabinet space, and you can stack units on top of each other. Each unit comes with 2 sets of pre-printed labels: one set for the outside of the drop-down drawers and another set for bottles (in case you’re using unlabeled bottles). (However, I recommend making your own labels with your trusty label maker, as the adhesive on the included labels isn’t as good.) The large, Chef’s Edition holds 30 full-size bottles, with each slot large enough for 2 half-sized spice bottles. For a great price on clear spice jars, try Specialty Bottles online.
The Cost of a Cluttered Closet
The average woman has $510 worth of unworn clothing cluttering her closet; the cost of a cluttered closet is even higher when you factor in time lost looking for items. You can’t wear what you can’t find, and you’re wasting space and money if you don’t wear it. A small investment in time and professional organizing will give big returns! Try these 8 tips for better organizing, as presented by SpareFoot:
Store it in Plain Sight
Things that you love deserve a place of honor. And you deserve to be able to look at them every day. Instead of keeping memorabilia, gifts, photos, etc. in boxes or cabinets, use them to decorate your home! The easiest way is to display them on bookcase shelves, window ledges, etc.
Look around the next time you’re in Crate & Barrel, or in the pages of a magazine like Traditional Home: their shelves aren’t filled with books like a library rack. They’re “merchandised” (retail term) to showcase the items they’re trying to draw attention to and to sell. Turn some books on their side, and place a photo on top. Use a vase or a piece of pottery as a bookend. Add in some of your favorite candlesticks. You can even change items with the seasons – shells in summer, ornaments at the holidays.
Now you’ve got a beautifully decorated home, filled with things that you love. And NO boxes of stuff cluttering the attic!
